Meet the Grower: Sidney Chang
Sidney Chang and Nujac Garden have been with the Market for 14 years. That is almost as long as the Market has been in existence! Although he took last year off, he is back with us this season and customers are delighted with his unique offerings!
As part-time gardeners and orchardists who only grow what they serve at their own table, Sidney, and Yana Sung, bring fruits and vegetables you might not see from other vendors. They offer produce like garlic scapes, long beans, and fava beans as well as white peaches and Asian pears. And although his garden is located in Carmel, he used to live in Broad Ripple (1987-1997) and still loves the area and the people here.
In fact, the people are the main reason Sidney became a vendor at the Market. He told me he doesn’t make money doing this; he does it as a service to the community. He does it to teach people how to eat healthy local produce and enjoy the great flavors of fresh foods. He started the business back in 2001 to share his food experience with others and he likes to get feedback from his customers about the produce they have purchased from him and how they used it.
If you haven’t stopped by Nujac Garden and chatted with Sidney, you really should. He is a wealth of fascinating information about fresh healthy foods and how to use them. You can see more about his garden and orchard on the Nujac facebook page here.
