For lots of reasons, Kristy Kikly and Mike Hoopengardner are shutting down their cheese-making operation. They’ll stay on the farm and allow their remaining goats to live out their lives well-cared for. And they might try their hands at some new projects going forward – ones that don’t present the same challenges as goat-milking and cheese-making. The good news is that Kristy and Mike have found a home for their championship cheeses. They found a couple in Henryville who were already raising goats and making goat cheese – a couple they admire for their top-notch farm and cheese-making operations. Kristy and Mike are creating their cheesemaking legacy by sharing their recipes and experience with David Taylor and Beth Boesche-Taylor at Sirocco Ridge Farmstead Creamery. Mike, who has staffed our Market since 2014, will be participating in Sirocco Ridge’s first appearance at the Winter Market on April 9 to introduce them to Caprini customers. He’ll come with them again for their first Summer market.

Mike was awarded the Ross Faris Award from our Market in 2019 for his unwavering and enthusiastic support of the Market and its vendors. Customers will have the opportunity to wish Mike well at upcoming Markets – stay tuned through our newsletter and social media for updates. And take the opportunity to share your appreciation for all they’ve done for us on their Facebook (Redbud Farm and Caprini Creamery) and Instagram (caprinicreamery) pages as well. Thanks Mike and Kristy – looking forward to learning what your new journeys will bring.
