Chad Thompson, Real Estate Broker and Owner of Thompson Home Sales Tell us a little bit about your story and why you chose Broad Ripple Village to be the home of your business. Once I graduated with my economics degree from Eastern Illinois University, I moved to Broad Ripple, mainly because of the local businesses and friendly people. That was over a decade ago, and I still live in the area. My first few years in Indy, I worked for a real estate attorney. This experience made me realize I loved real estate and working with people to find their perfect home. I started in the real estate business 8 years ago with a larger real estate company. Along the way, I felt the community vibe and wanted to be a part of it, so I opened my local, independent real estate company, Thompson Home Sales. How many years have you been located in Broad Ripple Village? I have been selling homes in Broad Ripple since 2009. Much of my home selling business is in Broad Ripple and the Greater Midtown Indy neighborhoods. So, it made sense that when I opened Thompson Home Sales that it be in Broad Ripple. I just opened my new office location in February of this year behind the Broad Ripple Brewpub at 6507 Ferguson St., Suite 203. I’ll be hosting a public office open house to show off the new space and will have free Cinco de Mayo themed drinks and food on Friday, May 5, from 6-8 p.m. All are welcome to stop by! How would you describe your business, and why should people visit you? Being local is one of the greatest aspects of my business, and being independent gives me the flexibility to give people customized real estate service. With the name Thompson Home Sales, my focus really is homes. A lot of people say real estate, but that’s too broad of a term. My focus is homes and helping people find or sell a home. Being a member of the Metropolitan Indianapolis Board of Realtors (MIBOR), the Indiana Association of Realtors, and National Association of Realtors, allows me to sell homes in Indy and the surrounding areas. Being local, I also run www.broadripplehomesales.com, where I give info about the Broad Ripple neighborhood and photos so people can get a feel for the area. When they’re ready to look at all the homes for sale, they can go directly to my www.ThompsonHomeSales.com website. Can you share with us an experience you had with a program, initiative, or interaction with the Broad Ripple Village Association that could help others understand the BRVA’s impact or mission? What’s unique about the BRVA is that they cater to two different sides. There’s a business community and a vibe of buy local. The BRVA makes ‘like and love local’ part of their mission. There are also BRVA member residents, so being able to help people live here is a part of the BRVA’s mission, as well. I currently serve on the board of the BRVA, and I’m the Chair of the Broad Ripple Historic Home Tour. Through that event, we highlight what it’s like to live in Broad Ripple and showcase some of the unique and historic homes built here, which is a great focus for the BRVA, too. What is your favorite thing about the Village? How about place to eat? Shop? Place to go? My favorite thing is the people and the walkability – to step outside and see people walking on the Monon, popping into shops, and being able to do the same. It is great to see everyone taking in the sites and relaxing any day of the week. Broad Ripple Brewpub is a great place to eat and socialize, same with Union Jack Pub. I also enjoy Rusted Moon Outfitters for outdoor gear. What excites you about the future of Broad Ripple? It’s exciting seeing the new projects that are coming in to bring new people to the area and the businesses that will open up because of it. It’s also been exciting to see a possible redesign for Broad Ripple Avenue, a boardwalk on the river, and adding other new outdoor spaces for people to enjoy. Go Broad Ripple!
