This past Sunday, September 17, 2017, the Broad Ripple Village Association (BRVA) organized volunteers and professional resources to remove invasive honeysuckle from an area along the Monon Trail in Broad Ripple Village.  PROJECT BY THE NUMBERS:
55 volunteer hours
$750 in-kind donations and resources
110 gallons of trash removed
4,500 sq ft of honeysuckle cleared  The Invasive Plant Removal Project aimed to accomplish the following beautification and public safety goals.  Remove invasive honeysuckle plants to:1. Create a healthy ecosystem for native plants and wildlife, and2. Create a clear line of sight so that no criminal activity can be sheltered in the dense brush Before PictureMidTown Trees donated heavy equipment and several members of their professional team to assist volunteers from Northminster Presbyterian Church, the Boy Scouts and the neighborhood to remove honeysuckle and litter from the site.  2.5 hours and a lot of lopping and sawing and dragging and chipping and raking later… An amazing transformation occurred! With all the honeysuckle gone, volunteers revealed a beautiful shaded area that with further investment could be a rest area for Monon Trail users. Thank you, volunteers!Thank you, MidTown Trees! After Picture View photos from the project here. The BRVA’s Beautification Committee will examine what additional investments are needed to formalize the site as a gathering place and rest area. Interested in helping them?
