If you are the kind of person who helps friends and neighbors, cares about the environment and arts and supports local businesses, we hope you will become a Broad Ripple Village Association Block Champion!

BRVA Block Champions are empowered to actively bring beautification to your corner of the village with the support of the BRVA and other volunteers.  This responsibility includes you getting your hands dirty, mobilizing other volunteers AND working with the businesses in your block for them to be an active part of the solution.

BRVA Block  Champion Commitment:

Time commitment:  One year, ideally two with the hope that you can dedicate 2-3 hours a month

Roles and Responsibilities:

    • Inspect:  Inspect your block monthly looking for graffiti, trash, landscaping and other aesthetic issues
    • Take Action:
      • Get your hands dirty picking up trash, pulling weeds, removing stickers/signs
      • Cover graffiti on public spaces (the tagging kind, not art) with paint provided by the BRVA; work with businesses to address private space tagging
      • Coordinate volunteers to implement maintenance efforts that need more hands (ie deep clean, pick weeds, cover graffiti, plant native plants)
      • Actively submit requests for your block to the city using the Request Indy app (replace a street sign, fix a hole, etc.)  The RequestIndy mobile app is available on both iPhone and Android.
  • Mobilize:
    • Rally local businesses to meet the specific beautification needs of your block (i.e. putting out trash cans, picking up, addressing tagging quickly, landscaping)
    • Proactively share with your businesses what the BRVA beautification committee is doing

To get started, we need you to do three things:

  1. Be willing to commit for one year, ideally two
  2. Contact BRVA Leader Lisa Huse at lisanhuse@gmail.com to discuss which block suits you
  3. Register your block ownership with Keep Indianapolis Beautiful at https://www.kibi.org/adopt-block.  This will give you access to a free trash picker and, if we do well together, we can qualify for native trees and plants!
