Steve Ross, The Vogue Owner Steve Ross, Owner of The Vogue Tell us a little bit about your story and why you chose Broad Ripple Village to be the home of your business. The Vogue has been here since 1938 as a movie theater. My brother and a partner bought it in 1977 and turned it into a nightclub. Besides the nostalgia, The Vogue has the three keys of real estate: location, location, location. I think The Vogue chose us! How many years have you been located in Broad Ripple Village? The Vogue itself opened on June 18th, 1938. I bought it from my brother in 1986, so it’s my 31st year of owning it.   How would you describe your business, and why should people visit you? We’ve always tried to make The Vogue as good as it can be. We do this through keeping the place clean and friendly, bringing in best bands – local or national touring ones. Our goal is always ‘let’s make this place over the top, be proactive, do things before others’ and we’ve been pretty successful. It’s been amazing how we’ve done something and then see other places try to copy it. We’ve brought in state-of-the-art light and sound equipment and videos, and it all really works. Can you share with us an experience you had with a program, initiative, or interaction with the Broad Ripple Village Association that could help others understand the BRVA’s impact or mission? I was on BRVA board for three years, from 2002-2005. During that time, we created Taste of Broad Ripple, and that was my baby. It was cool because the BRVA was excited to see how it went, and now the event is getting ready to happen again this year on June 17th. The BRVA’s goal is always to make the Village a cool, eclectic place. No matter what, they try to work with the businesses coming to the area to keep it village-esque. What is your favorite thing about the Village? How about place to eat? Shop? Place to go? Location! The Monon and the environment – it has an eclectic mix of bars, restaurants, and people. You can really get any type of food any night of the week. I really love Garden Table, 3 Sisters Cafe, and Public Greens. I’m glad I live in the area, I can ride or walk to work. What excites you about the future of Broad Ripple? It’s growing. I have compared it to the focus that they put on Mass Ave downtown. Over the last five or six years that area has grown so much, and I see Broad Ripple going that same way. There’s a focus on Broad Ripple now from the city and people, and it’s amazing. The Vogue Steve Ross Choose from a variety of shows at The Vogue, 6259 N.
