INDIANAPOLIS – The Broad Ripple Village Association (BRVA) will host a community input open house for residents in their service area – which includes residences within Meridian Street on the west, Evanston St on the east, Kessler Blvd on the south, and 67th St/White River on the north – to gather community input on potential re-use of Broad Ripple High School. All other interested parties will be invited to participate in an online survey that can be found at www.brva.org/brhsadvocacy will be made available Aug. 29 through Sept. 12. The public input open house for Broad Ripple residents will take place next Thurs., Aug. 24 from 6 – 7:30 p.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, in the Parish Hall Basement (North Building) located at 6050 N Meridian St. Attendees should RSVP at www.BRHSopenhouse.eventbrite.com. In June, Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS) announced its recommendation to close various area high schools, including Broad Ripple Magnet High School for the Arts and Humanities. The IPS board will hold a final vote on Sept. 18. BRVA Board Member and Past President Kent Springer says the input session is part of the organization’s mission to advance the Village community through engagement and advocacy. “It is imperative that the community be able to shape the facility’s re-use,” said Springer. “And while the BRVA strongly believes BRHS should remain scholastic and community-service-minded, we want to make sure all voices in the community are heard.” Springer says the input received during the meeting will be relayed directly to IPS, which indicated its desire for the BRVA and others to participate in re-use discussions should the board vote to close BRHS.
