The Annual Ross Faris Award recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions in support of local farms, farmers markets, and restaurants using local produce. This year’s awardee is Allen Baird, owner/patriarch of family-owned and operated My Dad’s Sweet Corn.

Allen’s vision for bringing the best sweet corn to local markets and restaurants supports farmers markets large and small and many local restaurants who feature My Dad’s corn in seasonal menu items. Their dedication to weekly planting through the summer makes fresh sweet corn available to our entire community through September every year. Many thanks to Allen Baird for all he’s done for our community. Vendor Highlights for September 19, Week #3

VENDOR NEWS & UPDATES:
  • Look for fresh produce like pumpkins, sweet corn, cantaloupes, watermelons, grapes, peaches, raspberries, blueberries, lettuce, summer and winter squash, beans, okra, scallions, leeks, garlic, celery, kale, cabbage, chard, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, radishes, potatoes, tomatoes, cucumbers, eggplant, sweet & hot peppers (including jalapenos), and fresh flowers!
  • Pumpkin season has begun! Look for pumpkins (of course), gourds, pumpkin pots, pumpkin spice everything, and more!
  • My Dad’s Sweet Corn will be out next week with not enough corn. They hope to be back in October, but stock up this Saturday!
  • Christopher Farm will have tender baby ginger, red and orange bell peppers, sweet Italian peppers, and slicing tomatoes this week.
  • Full Hand Farm is bringing plenty of power mix, baby bok choy, purple daikon radishes, and broccoli along with tomatoes this Saturday.
  • Grandma’s Kitchen will have the usual take & bake entrees, frozen soups, the last of the season’s fridge pickles, and the return of Whipped Pumpkin Feta Dip.
  • Look for fresh local lettuce, jalapenos, and blueberries at multiple vendors!

Vendors Out This Week/Schedule Changes:

  • Zenward Tea & Wellness and Oulala are switching schedules for September. Oulala is out and Zenward is joining us this Saturday.
  • U-Relish will be joining us off schedule.
  • Lick Ice Cream is out this week – switched to Weeks 2/4 for September. Look for them next week at the Market.
  • Generations Pie Co. is out this week for a family reunion.
  • Yoltlayohle will be out this Saturday.
SPECIAL GUESTS:
  • Indivisible Central Indiana – will be at the Market this week and next doing voter registration.
  • The BRVA will have Broad Ripple Kiwanis Club joining them this Saturday to promote their Annual Pumpkin Smash.
  • Hope Plumbing – our newest summer market sponsor is joining us this Saturday. Stop in and say hello and thank them for their support.

  • Remember to bring CASH for purchasing from the few vendors who don’t take credit cards (Norman Mullet Farm, Johnnie Raber Family Farm, and Phelps Family Farm).
  • Lost & Found items are turned in to the BRFM Information booth – be sure to check there if you’ve lost something at the Market.
WHAT’S COOKING: Fall Corn Pudding with White Cheddar and Thyme

This Sunday we will hold our 2026 Dinner in the Garden fundraiser with a corn-themed menu to honor our Ross Faris Award winner. If you can’t make it to the dinner, prepare this at home or save the recipe for your next holiday feast. It’s a fabulous side dish to have in your repertoire!
